In the summer of 2014, we hosted the the 6th European Encontro de Maracatus where bands from all over Europe with Brazilian Maracatu drumming masters for a meeting of Maracatus in Limerick. This event was the culmination of two year’s work within the band and is a testimony to the passion of the members.

The 6th European Maracatu Encontro was held between the 25th and 27th July in Limerick city. It was the largest gathering of Maracatu players and dancers outside of Brazil.

“Maracatu is one of the most authentic and involving cultural events in Brazil. It brought me therefore great satisfaction to learn about Maracatu Ilha Brilhante’s commitment to fostering this lively tradition in Ireland. I join their voices in this invitation to attend the 6th European Encontro of Maracatus, to be held in Limerick on 25th-27th July 2014.

Let’s all gather in Limerick then, to learn, share and celebrate to the sound of the vibrant maracatu.”
